Nutrition & Lifestyle Counselor, Functional Medicine Health Coach
I received my Nutrition & Lifestyle Counselor training at the fully-accredited, Huntington College of Health Sciences, where I received a Diploma in Comprehensive Nutrition. I am currently enrolled in the Certification Program with The Functional Medicine Coaching Academy where I will receive the Certification as a Functional Medicine Health Coach.
This combined training provides me with the tools needed to be able to guide & support individuals so as to create Optimal Health. Genetics load the gun but Diet & Lifestyle pull the trigger.
(See article: "Modifiable dietary and lifestyle risk factors could prevent most cases of CAD, stroke, diabetes, and many cancers...https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK11795/)
I, too, suffered with digestion problems. The traditional approach didn't make sense. How could taking a pill get to the cause of the problem. After all, I didn't have a 'purple pill' deficiency. The principles of Functional Medicine worked for me. With the training I received I came to appreciate that a qualified Health Coach will include much more than just the Dietary component, as is the focus of the typical Nutritionist or Dietician. Genetic, Lifestyle & Environmental factors also need to be considered when the goal is getting to the cause and achieving Optimal Health. This is why the s.i.m.p.l.e 7 nutrition approach includes the following 4 components:
The s.i.m.p.l.e 7 nutrition approach includes:
Dietary: How much & which foods should we be eating. Why view food as medicine and as messengers to our cells. Why choose a variety of 'clean' & colorful foods! What are the Benefits of Testing: Stool, Micronutrient & Food Sensitivity. (Prescribed by the Functional Medicine Practitioner)
Lifestyle: How does our lifestyle directly affect overall health. Infections, sleep, stress, rest, family, friends, fun & exercise! And how to incorporate long-lasting changes. (Functional blood, saliva & urine tests available to help discover & confirm underlying cause/s: prescribed by Functional Medicine Practitioner).
Environmental: The health connection of: Indoor air, personal care products, drinking, cleaning & bathing water, cleaning products, electronics, furniture & bedding, etc! Where to find affordable replacement products. (Functional blood & urine tests available to help discover & confirm underlying cause/s: Prescribed by Functional Medicine Practitioner).
Genetics: Will your genetics destine you to ill-health? Which mutations affect your health & why nutritional support is needed. (Functional blood, saliva & urine tests available to help discover & confirm underlying cause/s: Prescribed by Functional Medicine Practitioner). The support & guidance to make any changes are s.i.m.p.l.e, they're available & they really work!
